Arts & Enrichment
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, learning doesn’t stop at the desk. Our enrichment, fine arts, and athletic programs are a vital part of a well-rounded Catholic education—helping students discover talents, build confidence, and grow as leaders.
What truly sets St. Nick’s apart from other Catholic schools is the depth of our offerings. From one of the oldest school bands on the Southwest Side to competitive athletic teams, students are encouraged to explore their interests and develop lifelong skills.

After School Clubs
St. Nick’s offers a wide variety of after-school clubs that allow students to explore interests, build skills, and connect with peers. From STEM and creativity to leadership and service, options include Sewing, Coding, LEGO, Chess, S.T.E.A.M., Choir, Ballet Folklorico, Yearbook, Book Club, Campus Ministry, and more—ensuring every student finds a place to grow and belong.

Fine Arts Excellence
St. Nick’s has a long-standing tradition of artistic excellence, including the oldest school band on the Southwest Side. Students begin formal music instruction as early as kindergarten, learning instruments such as ukulele, violin, piano, and guitar.
Through music and visual arts, students develop discipline, confidence, collaboration, and creative expression—skills that support academic success and personal growth.

Music Education
Music is an essential part of the St. Nick’s experience. Students as young as first grade begin instrumental instruction and participate in Primary and Junior High Chorus, band, orchestra, and specialty ensembles. Offerings include Beginning Band, Senior Band, String Orchestra, Beginning Violin, Guitar, Percussion Club, and private lessons. Through performance and practice, students develop rhythm, musicianship, teamwork, confidence, and poise, while research shows that participation in music supports cognitive growth and higher academic achievement.

Visual Arts
St. Nicholas of Tolentine’s visual arts program introduces students to painting, drawing, and mixed media while building strong foundational techniques and creative confidence. Through hands-on projects, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and visual communication skills across grade levels. Instruction encourages imagination, thoughtful design, and personal expression, helping students see themselves as artists. Our program fosters a lifelong appreciation for art and culture while strengthening skills that support overall academic success.

Language & Technology
Spanish is provided to students in Kindergarten through 8th grade through the University of Notre Dame’s ECLIP Program and is part of our daily curriculum. Students build foundational reading and language skills while exploring Hispanic language and culture. Our Innovation Lab offers hands-on STEM experiences, featuring advanced technology including a 3D printer. Through exploration and problem-solving, students strengthen creativity, collaboration, and real-world skills.

Theater & Dance Performance
Our Theater and Dance program brings performance to life. Students in grades 5–8 study drama, acting, improvisation, and stagecraft, building confidence and communication skills. Dance offerings include ballroom for middle school and ballet and folkloric dance for K–8. Students learn posture, timing, technique, and expression while growing in creativity, teamwork, and stage presence.
